01

About DISPLAX

Who we are, where we build and who we work with.

What is DISPLAX?

DISPLAX is a European manufacturer of projected capacitive (PCAP) touch technology, founded in 2011 in Portugal. It designs and produces touch foils, touch modules and complete touch displays from 7" to 135", in any shape, for indoor and outdoor use.

Where are DISPLAX products designed and manufactured?

In Portugal. DISPLAX develops the touch controller, algorithms, hardware, firmware and software in-house, and manufactures in three buildings with 3,177 m² in total, including 699 m² of production area.

When did DISPLAX start making touch technology?

DISPLAX was founded in 2011 and pioneered the world’s first large-format multi-touch film that same year.

Which countries does DISPLAX supply?

DISPLAX exports to more than 40 countries, with customers and partners across Europe, the United States, Asia and the Middle East.

Who does DISPLAX work with?

Mainly system integrators, OEMs and global brands. DISPLAX supports each project from the first prototype to mass production.

Where can I see DISPLAX projects?

On the Success Stories page and in the case studies published in News & Insights. Projects range from museums and retail stores to EV chargers, casinos and the world’s largest PCAP touch video wall, installed in Hong Kong in 2019.

Choosing a Touch Solution

PCAP basics, product ranges, sizes and shapes.

What is PCAP touch technology?

Projected capacitive (PCAP) touch detects fingers through a grid of transparent electrodes placed behind the cover glass. It supports true multi-touch and works through thick glass. It is the same principle used in smartphones and tablets, scaled up to large formats.

How is PCAP different from an infrared (IR) touch frame?

An IR frame detects touch with light beams across the screen surface, so it needs a raised frame around the display. PCAP sits behind the glass, which keeps the surface flush and sealed, and it is not triggered by objects hovering near the screen.

Which DISPLAX product range is right for my project?

DISPLAX has three ranges. Touch Foils (the SKIN range) are flexible sensors that integrators laminate behind their own glass. Touch Modules (MESH and OVERLAY) are plug-and-play units that add touch to a display. Touch Displays (TILE and TILE Pro) are complete touch displays for video walls.

What touchscreen sizes are available?

From 7" to 135" diagonal. SKIN ROUND covers circular screens from 10" to 56" in diameter, and SKIN SHAPES sizes depend on the shape.

Can DISPLAX make custom shapes and sizes?

Yes. SKIN touch foils can be made in custom formats and aspect ratios. SKIN ROUND makes circular touchscreens, and SKIN SHAPES offers triangle, ellipse, half-round, half-ellipse and trapezium shapes, plus other shapes on request.

Can I turn an existing display into a touchscreen?

Yes. OVERLAY converts signage displays into touchscreens, with plug-and-play installation and vandal-resistant glass. MESH is a plug-and-play Metal Mesh touch module for kiosks, industrial and medical displays.

How many simultaneous touches do DISPLAX products support?

Up to 100 on SKIN ULTRA, SKIN ROUND, SKIN SHAPES and TILE, 80 on TILE Pro, 40 on SKIN FIT, and 10 on SKIN ZEETO, MESH and OVERLAY.

Which product replaces SKIN DUALTOUCH?

SKIN DUALTOUCH has reached end of life. For new projects, use SKIN ZEETO up to 75", or SKIN FIT for larger sizes.

Is DISPLAX an alternative to Zytronic touch sensors?

03

Performance & Environments

Outdoor use, thick glass, gloves and video walls.

Do DISPLAX touchscreens work outdoors?

Yes. SKIN ZEETO is designed for harsh environments and keeps working under rain, dust, ice and UV exposure. SKIN FIT is also ready for indoor and outdoor projects.

How thick can the cover glass be?

Up to 20 mm with SKIN ZEETO, 15 mm with SKIN FIT, and 10 mm with SKIN ULTRA, SKIN ROUND and SKIN SHAPES. SKIN ZEETO also works with laminated, curved and double-glass setups.

Can DISPLAX touchscreens be used with gloves?

Yes. SKIN ZEETO works with gloves, including heavy industrial and medical gloves.

How fast do DISPLAX touchscreens respond?

5 ms on SKIN ULTRA, SKIN FIT, SKIN ROUND, SKIN SHAPES and TILE, 6 ms on TILE Pro, 7 ms on SKIN ZEETO, and 8 ms on MESH and OVERLAY.

Can touchscreens be combined into a large interactive video wall?

Yes. TILE keeps touch continuous across screens, and TILE Pro has an ultra-thin 2 mm bezel. In 2019, DISPLAX powered the world’s largest PCAP touch video wall in Hong Kong: 48 displays, 20 metres wide.

04

Object Recognition

Making physical objects interact with the screen.

What is object recognition on a touchscreen?

It lets the screen identify physical objects placed on it and react with content, such as product information or a game action. DISPLAX offers three options: Active TAGs, Passive TAGs and SCAPE X®.

What is the difference between Active TAGs, Passive TAGs and SCAPE X®?

Active TAGs have electronics, with RGB lighting, haptic vibration, joystick mode and wireless charging. Passive TAGs are battery-free, with no electronics, no charging and no licensing. SCAPE X® uses AI to recognise objects with no cameras and no markers, and is built into TILE Pro.

Which DISPLAX products support object recognition?

05

Software, Compatibility & Support

Drivers, operating systems, DISPLAX Connect and help.

Do I need to install drivers?

No. DISPLAX touchscreens are True HID devices: the operating system recognises them as a standard touch device. Multitouch works on Windows, Android, Chrome OS and Ubuntu. On macOS they work in single touch, and multitouch is available to applications through TUIO.

What is DISPLAX Connect?

DISPLAX Connect is the free configuration software for every DISPLAX product. It includes a Configuration Wizard for automatic setup, sensitivity tuning, calibration, sensor health tests, object recognition settings and remote management with DISPLAX Cast. It runs on Windows, macOS and Ubuntu.

Where can I find installation guides?

In the DISPLAX Knowledge Base, which has guides for each product, lamination instructions and DISPLAX Connect documentation.

How do I contact DISPLAX technical support?

Through the support portal or by email at support@displax.com.

Does DISPLAX offer training or webinars?

Yes. The Webinars page has free on-demand recordings on the SKIN, MESH and TILE ranges, object recognition, DISPLAX Connect and SKIN ZEETO.
