Elections are very important moments for TV channels: huge audiences are counting on them to quickly deliver detailed information about the results of the polls. Also, there's a lot of competitiveness amongst networks for the bigger chunk of audience. Therefore the attractiveness of the way results are presented is very important.
TVI decided to use a large 70'' multitouch display, DISPLAX Oqtopus, for their news anchor to use during the live broadcast. The reliability of the technology as well as its precision and accuracy were key to a good user experience by the anchor, Jose Alberto de Carvalho, as well as a good viewing experience for the people at home watching the broadcast.
Portugal voted to decide who would be the Prime Minister for the next 4 years as well as to elect the representatives to each of the 18 Districts. 5 different parties elected representatives so there was a lot of statistical information to provide that needed to be easily and quickly manipulated by the anchor to deliver at any given time the most important and most updated information available. This was key for a good broadcasting performance and to engage with the audience. |
